Simplification Sunday: Week Twenty Seven

Great week in the "get some shit out of my life" initiative! I hit publish early this week to make up for a few missed deadlines in the past.

- I pretty much gave my Etsy store to my sister
- added a few things to the next mountain for Goodwill (e.g., craft paint brushes, bookbag, ornaments)
- tossed these four things by the side of the road

Simplification Sunday: Week Twenty Six!

Whoa. Halfway through the year already. Simplifying is going strong. I am down to some deadlines on a few nerd projects, so I don't even have a photo of anything good for you today. Just boring text.

This week in simplifying I:

- started another mound for Goodwill (how is this always a possibility? It's starting to get a little weird . . . there are four things on it already . . . well two since my sister usurped half of them).
- I will get rid of an old chair, but that involves walking downstairs and I'm not feeling up to that just yet.

Simplification Sunday: Week Twenty Five

This is what I stare at all day. My research space at school.

- emptied and tossed an old USB key. Who even uses those anymore?
- gave three necklaces to my sister, found a home for another
- dropped of small bag of stuff to Goodwill (basket, tote bag, some shirts, knick knacks)
- cleaned out my tin bucket of vaguely electronic things got rid of old batteries, patch cords, camera bags and tripods
- closed my Etsy store & account . . . that made me a little sad, but it was necessary. I'll survive.
- closed my ZipCar account (it's almost always cheaper and easier to rent from Enterprise around the corner), bummer is that I already paid my membership through May 2013. I wish I would have thought of this one on Week 12!

Knit. Knit.

This picture is dark.
Doesn't really show how my new fresh blankie looks like a Monet painting actually.

But it is good, none the less. All my blue, green, and purple yarn went into it. Now I have none left.

What would it be like to use up all your yarn? Just make everything.
Might be a good goal . . . for 2013?

Simplification Sunday: Week Twenty Four

I've been busy studying for an exam this week (doing a lot of what is depicted above), so I've not had much head space for simplifying. I did make some small progresses here and there though to keep the momentum going in the right simplification direction.

- gave an old hoodie to my sister
- gave two necklaces to my mom (the flow of beads outward continues!)
- cut apart a duvet cover to reclaim the Japanese fabric on the top. I ruined it with a felt tipped pen (yes, I spend a lot of time on my bed with pens . . . see above), so I thought it best just to scrap it and use the fabric for something else
- started another small heap for Goodwill, just another shirt, some accessories, and small things, but it's good to start another mound

Whoops! My poor bike! Toronto is kinda a brutal place for cyclists at the best of times, but today was particularly sad. My dear friend and work colleague Anne came upstairs around 10:30am this morning - "Erin . . . I really, really hate to be the one to tell you this, but your bike got run over." Yeah . . . we think it was one of the delivery trucks to the Shopper's next door that kinda just went for broke and knocked over and crumpled my bike. The wheel, tire, tube, brakes, fender, rack, helmet, and lock were all destroyed. I'm waiting to hear if the frame is fixable. It has a bit of a curve in her now. Poor Fern.

Fixable bike: $500
Unfixable bike (i.e., new bike): $800+
Problems that can be solved by money alone: Not that bad, really.

Simplification Sunday: Week Twenty Three

This dress has nothing to do with anything. Other than that I found it in Miami at Christmas and decided to save it for my 30th birthday (June 1, 2012). Love the neon!

This week in simplifying I got rid of an area rug that was serving no purpose in my life other than being a dusty object to sweep. It also carried with it some unhappy memories . . . so Gonzo!
